Cumbrian based training provider, Gen2, has welcomed its 2022 apprentices this month, including almost 200 apprentices for Sellafield Ltd.
In addition to engineering and business apprenticeships, this intake for Sellafield Ltd also includes nuclear specific apprenticeships such as Nuclear Welding Inspection Technicians, Nuclear Operatives and Health Physics Monitors ranging from Level 2 to degree apprenticeships.
Gen2 has been the local chosen training provider for Sellafield Ltd apprenticeships in Cumbria for the past 22 years and will continue to do so under the recent contract award.
Craig Smith, Gen2 Managing Director, said “It has been great to welcome our new cohort of learners who have started with us during September. At Gen2 we work very closely with many employers across the county to deliver apprenticeships and study programmes from our 5 Cumbrian training centres. Sellafield Ltd were one of the original founding partners of Gen2 when the company started in 2000 and as such we have a long standing and valued relationship to ensure we deliver high quality apprentice training for our local community. This relationship has been invaluable over the years in joint working to develop and deliver new nuclear related apprenticeships and more recently respond to the challenges of remote learning during Covid to ensure our apprentices stayed on target.
The large number of applications we have seen this year for learners wishing to join the Sellafield Ltd apprenticeships is testament to the investment in skills Sellafield Ltd continue to make and the high regard in which they are held. We were delighted to welcome the 22nd Sellafield intake of apprentices at Gen2.”
Apprenticeships remain a great career choice for students who want to gain employability skills and learn a profession whilst being paid. As apprenticeships are open to any age, Gen2 has seen an increase in more mature learners who have joined the company this year to re-train and gain those all-important skills to meet local employer demand.
Donna Connor, Head of Education and Skills for Sellafield Ltd said: “We’re delighted to welcome the 2022 intake of apprentices to Sellafield.
“These young people are the future of our industry. If they work hard and demonstrate the right behaviours, they can look forward to an exciting future as a nuclear professional.
“We’re delighted to continue our relationship with Gen2. I’m looking forward to working together to ensure every one of our apprentices fulfils their potential.”
