From Pre-Apprenticeship to Degree Engineer: Grace’s Journey Through Gen2

For many engineers, career progression is built through experience, determination and the right opportunities. For Grace McCrickard, that journey began shortly after leaving school and has led her to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering while building a successful career in industry.

For over 25 years, Gen2 has been a key partner to engineering and manufacturing employers across Cumbria, delivering high-quality technical training that supports business growth and economic resilience. In a region where demand for skilled professionals continues to rise, Gen2 remains focused on meeting the needs of industry through a broad and evolving portfolio of apprenticeships.

At Gen2, we are thrilled to welcome the latest group of apprentices into our centres in Furness, Workington and Carlisle. This moment is always one of the highlights of our year, as new students arrive ready to begin their life-changing career journeys. For many, this is the start of a path that will not only transform their futures but also strengthen the businesses and communities of Cumbria for years to come.

‘City & Guilds Training’, the training arm of City & Guilds, has secured further funding from the Department for Education to deliver a new wave of Skills Bootcamps over the next two years across England.
