We are excited to announce that Gen2 is now offering the new validated Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) at Levels 4 and 5 in various Engineering disciplines. These qualifications are supported by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) and endorsed by leading employers.

Higher Technical Qualifications are higher education-level technical qualifications. Our BTEC Higher Nationals (HNs), developed in collaboration with industry experts, have been submitted for recognition by IfATE as HTQs. When approved, these qualifications will receive the HTQ quality mark, signalling to employers and students their status as high-quality technical education aligned with Occupational Standards.

Gen2 will be running HTQ programs from three locations across Cumbria: Workington, Carlisle, and Ulverston. Our comprehensive program offers blended learning delivery, designed to help individuals balance higher education with their work and personal commitments.

Learn with our highly experienced vocational delivery team, who have a proven track record in delivering HNC and HND qualifications. We are proud that our programme achievement rates consistently exceed 90%, and our courses are highly valued by both our learners and supporting employers.

What a Higher Technical Qualification is

(Information from the gov.uk website)

These qualifications are new or existing level 4 and 5 qualifications such as higher national certificates (HNCs), higher national diplomas (HNDs) and foundation degrees. They sit between A levels or T Levels and degrees, and can be taught at a further education college, an independent training provider or a university.

These qualifications have been developed by awarding bodies in collaboration with employers so students can develop the skills that employers want.

The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) will approve each new HTQ as meeting the knowledge and skills needed by the sector. Approved courses show the HTQ quality mark logo.

Watch the video on gov.uk to get an introduction to the HTQ.

We will be offering an opportunity to register for the full HTQ qualifications and complete unit by unit via a modular scheme. This will be delivered via flexible learning and enables people to start at various points during the year.

In addition we will be offering under our HN Flex approval individual modules, or groups of modules that provide a unitised qualification in areas of specific interest. This is ideal for employees who are looking to upskill in specific areas such as :

  • Programmable logic controllers
  • Thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
  • Electrical machines

Please contact us at for more detailed information and a timetable of when each module will be running.

Learners:

All learners will need access to a laptop or other internet enabled device to access delivery sessions run via teams.

As a Gen2 learner you will automatically gain access to office 365, matlab and a Gen2 email account to enable you to sign up to access additional learning resources such as HN Global which will support you with your studies.

You will be advised per individual module of any additional software access requirements.
