Prevent is part of the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy, and aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism; as such it is described as the only long term solution to the threat we face from terrorism.
Prevent focuses on all forms of terrorism and operates in a pre-criminal space. It provides support and redirection to vulnerable individuals at risk of being groomed into terrorist activity, before any crimes are committed. Radicalisation is comparable to other forms of exploitation; and a safeguarding issue, which as staff working in education we should be aware of.
A system of five threat levels has been created by the government which represents the likelihood of an attack, it is important you are aware of which level is in place at any one time:
Channel is part of the Prevent strategy, The process is a multi-agency approach to identify, and provide support to individuals who are at risk of being drawn into terrorism.
Have a strong ethos and ongoing commitment to respond to all forms of Safeguarding, Prevent and British values. If you need any guidance or support, just ask.
The threat we face from terrorism is real, if you have any concerns please talk to your tutor, one of the Safeguarding Leads or any other member of staff.
