BEng(Hons) Degree in Plant Engineering (Mechanical Engineering)

Course Aim

This course aims to provide the students with a consolidated body of knowledge appropriate to mechanical engineering as practised within plant engineering. It will also provide students with an experience of higher education that reflects the requirements for innovation and inter-related activities in the industrial environment of plant engineering.

Student Pre-Requisites:

All students will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course. 

This course is suitable for candidates who have passed the FdEng Plant Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) qualification with Merit. Candidates who have successfully completed the FdEng Plant Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) qualification with a Pass may be considered but will be expected to successfully complete a level 5 bridging programme.

Alternatively, you must have a completed vocational qualification from somewhere else that meets the following criteria:

  • in engineering or a closely related subject
  • includes a total of 240 credits, 120 of which are at FHEQ level 5 or SCQF level 8 (e.g. DipHE, HND or foundation degree)
  • Successful completion of the level 5 bridging programme.

Those entering the programme with alternative qualifications will not be eligible for the level 6 Nuclear Scientist and Nuclear Engineer degree apprenticeship but can study on a commercial basis.

Location and Delivery Model:

The course is delivered in the Energus facility by Gen2’s Higher Education Department (UoC) on a day release basis. You will typically study 80 credits per academic year. The academic programme will be assessed using a mixture of coursework, examinations, reports and vivas.

Delivery Plan and Commitment:

The qualification requires 20% of time from the student’s normal working week to be committed to the qualification for the duration of the programme. This time must be away from normal work duties.

This qualification is awarded by the University of Cumbria.
