Level 5 Operations Manager

Overview:

Training as an Operations manager, involves learning theories and practices to develop the way you will be managing the operations and processes of an organisation. Some of the functions performed by an operations manager include people management, supply chain management, product design, forecasting, quality control, and delivery management. The programme develops managers to optimise business processes, reducing costs, and leading cross-functional teams. Supporting the organisation to enhance efficiency, implement innovative solutions, and drive operational success.

During your programme delivery you will study a mix of knowledge, skills, and behaviours aimed at preparing you to manage teams, projects and operations, not just on the day-to-day but with a view to contributing to strategic objectives.

Duration & Attendance:

Must be aged 18+ years and hold a minimum of 96 UCAS points (equivalent to the previous rating of 240). This total can have been gained either at ‘A’-level in appropriate STEM subjects, or, alternatively, a National Certificate at Level 3 (such as BTEC) either in Science or Engineering. In addition, prospective candidates must have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grades 9 to 4 (equivalent to the previous GCSE A* to C grades) and which include maths, English and a science subject.

What will I study?

During the apprenticeship you will study, among other things:

  • Operational & project management: Planning, executing, monitoring, and evaluating projects or operations.
  • Business planning, KPIs & continuous improvement: Understanding how to set goals, measure performance, and improve processes over time.
  • Finance, budgeting, and forecasting: Using financial data and budgeting tools to support resource planning and decisions.
  • Leadership & People Management: Building and managing teams, motivating staff, coaching/mentoring, performance management, recruitment (in some cases) and staff development.
  • Communication & stakeholder relationship management: Working effectively with colleagues, senior staff, external stakeholders; developing strong interpersonal skills
  • Decision-making, problem-solving & risk/change management: Making informed choices, managing risk, leading change, and solving operational problems.
  • Self-management and professionalism: Developing self-awareness, reflecting on own performance, time management, personal effectiveness, ethical working, and professionalism.
  • Understanding legal/regulatory responsibilities, equality & diversity, and organisational governance (in many programmes): ensuring operations comply with law and organisational policies.
  • Use of data and technology to support decision-making and operations (in some providers/schemes): using relevant IT tools, analysing data, and leveraging digital methods.

What qualifications will I achieve?

On successful completion of this apprenticeship learners will achieve:

  • Certificate of achievement for the L5 Operations Manager standard which can be used to gain chartered Manager status
