Course Aim

This course provides students with a comprehensive body of knowledge in Infrastructure Asset Management as applied within the context of plant engineering. It also offers a higher education experience that reflects the demands for innovation and integrated activities in industrial environments.

Infrastructure Asset Management focuses on sustaining assets such as roads, electric grids, bridges, waterways, railways, and waste systems. Its core aim is to maintain, rehabilitate, and replace infrastructure to extend service life and improve the overall quality and performance of existing systems.

This programme is directly aligned with local industry needs and supports the development of essential skills to address shortages within the infrastructure asset management sector.

Student Prerequisites

All applicants will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course.

This programme is suitable for candidates who have achieved a Merit in the FdEng Plant Engineering (Infrastructure Asset Management) qualification. Candidates who have successfully completed the same qualification with a Pass may also be considered, subject to the successful completion of a Level 5 bridging programme.

Alternatively, applicants may hold a vocational qualification from another institution that meets the following criteria:

  • In engineering or a closely related subject
  • Totals 240 credits, with at least 120 credits at FHEQ Level 5 or SCQF Level 8 (e.g., DipHE, HND, or Foundation Degree)
  • Includes successful completion of a Level 5 bridging programme

Please note: Applicants entering via alternative qualifications will not be eligible for the Level 6 Nuclear Scientist and Nuclear Engineer Degree Apprenticeship, but may enrol on a commercial basis.

Location and Delivery Model

This course is delivered at the Energus facility by Gen2’s Higher Education Department (University of Cumbria) on a day-release basis. Learners typically study 80 credits per academic year.

The academic programme is assessed through a combination of coursework, examinations, technical reports, and viva voce presentations, offering a balanced approach to knowledge and skill development.

Delivery Plan and Commitment:

The qualification requires 20% of time from the student’s normal working week to be committed to the qualification for the duration of the programme. This time must be away from normal work duties.
